We are our phones.

You gotta love it that the New York Times has started posting the lead article to the printed Sunday magazine online the Friday before.

Well this week's article is a gem. It introduces a guy named Jan Chipchase who travels all over the world for Nokia looking for ideas. There are some great moments that many of our very own world travelers might relate to (there is a description of a one room Mumbai apartment that I am confident would be a doppelganger for "Kumar's House" in Chennai). And there are many good LAMSTAIH examples.

Jan does what we do and what we help our clients do, but I think the most interesting thing about the article is the discussion of how cell phones have and will truly change the world. Not since the automobile has there been a technology around which completely revolve. The way we build cities. The way we deliver services. The way we think about our own identities.

I am going to go pet my Nokia e61 for a while.

Hey Ben. Brilliant article.

Favorite stat...3 billion in the world without cell phone yet 80% have access to towers. Huge oppty there.

Favorite story...800 pics in 8 hours of a single family...that's LAMS.

Favorite line..."there you are." Mobile technology allows us to say that line to each other in ways that are way humbling. We are connected at arms length to the world...we are no longer lost, not really, not for long.

Big question...how could you incorporate mobile technology into your LAMS process?

Build On Idea...a LAMS event with moblie check ins every 15 minutes. Thoughts are collected, condensed, and visually displayed for the group upon returning to homebase.

Later.

I really liked the idea of "just in time" moments, that feeling of "I am next to the red phone booth, do you see me? Oh...wait...there you are. I see you." And you keep talking while you walk towards each other. Very cool.
