Hi! I was told to send my blog post to this address, so here it is! Thanks so much for the opportunity. -Amy Demoreuille

Looking back on an article I wrote freshman year for the Collegian, my college newspaper, I discovered a quote that has stuck with me throughout my college career:

"To decline to be the Other, to refuse to be a party to the deal—this would be for [people] to renounce all the advantages conferred upon them by their alliance with the superior caste" (xxvii) - Simone De Beauvoir, "The Second Sex"

The underlying meaning of this quote hits home for me: interaction between different people results in the most rewarding success.  To be normal, to conform, to be unoriginal, to be afraid to step out of bounds--this is not the way to live.  And now, as I apply for the 2009 summer internship at Play, this quote takes on a new meaning for me.  The same methods of doing things and the same thinking processes do not lead to ingenuity.  I constantly strive not only to be different myself, but to think creatively in all aspects of my life, whether it be on class cabinet, on my sorority's committees, at a job, or in the classroom.

This fall, I analyzed a business and it's processes and developed new and innovative procedures.  In a declining economy and increasingly competitive workforce, the bar is being raised.  New procedures and new ways of thinking are the ways to stand out and survive.  Diverse teams will be more successful because together, members will generate alternative, innovative and creative solutions for complex problems.

I believe I can contribute to the team at Play because I can bring a new perspective, while still bringing the skills for successful teamwork.  My name is Amy Demoreuille, and I would love to be considered for Play's 2009 summer internship.
