Growing up, I learned to play in a different way than the average American child. I grew up in southern Africa. I didn’t have the newest game system, linking logs, G.I. Joes, or nerf guns… I had to learn how to play by being creative with my surroundings. The local kids would make durable soccer balls out of plastic bags and string or mobile toy cars out of wire. It’s truly amazing.  A tire on the side of the road became a little boy’s joy. Things that most would never think of touching would become the product of creativity. This is how I learned to play. A termite mound of dirt became my kingdom and I learned that playfulness, imagination, and creativity are what determine true play.

Through researching possible internship opportunities, Play’s© program interests me the most. I have learned that playfulness comes from within, which is what I see in this company. I want to see what our minds together can do to better the world of creativity. I want to show the world that toys don’t need to determine how we play. I want to inspire playfulness and be inspired.

I am a rising senior marketing major and business administration minor at North Greenville University in Tigerville, South Carolina. My name is Paul Davis and I want to mesh with the creative purebreds that playfulness has to offer and learn how to with the Play© team in the 2009 Summer Internship opportunity.
