Dear Play,
Have you ever smelled something delicious and followed the scent to discover the source of the smell? Only you discover what you were smelling was this delicious, melt-in-your-mouth chocolate chip cookie that someone had made. The kicker: there is only one cookie, and you want it. But others have wandered in and are looking lustfully at it. I am that cookie. You want me to be your intern. And after you have me, you will be more than satisfied, you will want more than just the taste you will get if you pick me to be your 2009 summer intern.

Ten years ago, as a gangly middle schooler, I came with my Odyssey of the Mind team to Play to see how your company worked to solve problems creatively. I met with the staff, one of whom, Tracey Reed (now Leverty), was the aunt of my friend. Now, ten years later, I find myself back at Play. I have kept challenging myself creatively by doing Destination Imagination (formerly known as Odyssey of the Mind) here at JMU.
My team participated in the challenge called DI’ve Got a Secret, where we had to create a story about a secret that incorporated a 3 piece set that opens up and connects to reveal another scene, a masquerade character, and an optical illusion.
Our secret was that there was a “cereal” killer in the land of cereal who was killing off her competition before the big reveal of her new cereal, Chocolate Cake Krispies, which is based off of chocolate angel food cake bites. The set starts off as three modified cereals – “Froot Oops” with Toucan Spam who sent mass spam emails, “Ice Krispies” with Peanut, Butter, and Jelly, and “Frosted Fakes” with Phony the Tiger who says phony pick up lines to the ladies. It then opens up to reveal the premiere of the new cereal. Our optical illusion was an impossible box which the evil new cereal was placing the characters. I have included pictures for you.
