Hello – for those of you who don’t know me (which statistically has to be most people right?) my name is Elijah and I'm interested in becoming a part of Play.
Looking through the blog I noticed that the Play team took a snow day (or two) to tell stories about themselves. In the same spirit, and since it snowed today in Charlottesville (seriously, it did – 1/27/09), I thought I would tell a story too. So, here it goes.
A few years back I lived in the Fan (in Richmond for those of you who don’t know) and was home for winter break. Well, I woke up one morning after both my mom and dad had gone to work. I made myself a ham and cheese omelet (I can cook about 8 things - not one of my more impressive achievements) and sat down to enjoy myself.
After I finished, the egg carton was empty, so I proceeded to throw it out, but the trash bag was overflowing. Still in my pajamas, I proceeded to trash around back, shutting the door behind me as I stepped out (a little foreshadowing here...). I’m sure everyone can guess what happened next – the door was locked (insert dramatic sound from ppt here).
Anyhoo... I proceeded to walk the five blocks to where my mom worked, an elementary school (lucky she was so close), to get the keys from her. Fortunately, it was during one of those weird winters where it was unusually warm (I can’t remember the temperature outside that day – it seems I’ve blacked out the memory of that walk...). I entered the school feeling quite foolish as one of the teachers said, “Um, may I help you?”
Suffice it to say, I was much more careful about living in my (my parent’s) new apartment after that.
I hope you know a little bit about me now. I want to come to Play to improve things in myself and other companies, and to think of new ideas (even if they never leave the drawing board) in a creative environment.
