Get out and vote for Play!

Wednesday, November 05, 2008

Let's channel Juno and say a "hellz ya" to all those companies who value the young professional worker. These are the companies who support professional development by offering training programs and tuition reimbursement, include jeans and flips flops in the dress code, and champion civic involvement. All stuff the millenials crave. Pretty much these employers fit the "badass" category because they've made work a fun place to be.

To recognize and celebrate these terrific workplaces, HYPE Richmond is sponsoring their first ever HYPE YP Workplace Award. And we gotta admit, we're pretty excited that Play is one of the nominees. We're so excited that we've actually created an internal campaign team to spread the word about the contest and incite people to vote for Play. Don't be surprised if we stop by your door tonight to give you a pamphlet and discuss with you all the benefits of life at Play. Our new campaign slogan is, "Play is where its at!" although we were toying with "Play is the shiznit" and "Changing workplaces for YPs all over." Pretty soon you'll see bummer stickers and buttons that read, "YPs for Play" and "Play against control-top panty-hose."

While we'll try to run a campaign mainly focused on what we bring to the workplace, we won't forget our competition. We know they've got their own list of benefits, and they certainly value collaboration and creativity as much as the next office. But, while we don't want to play into dirty politics, we have heard one company say, "I can see Google from my backyard!" and even a couple are claiming maverick status.

Regardless of where it is that you work, we believe that YPs deserve to be challenged, to have some flexibility in their schedules, and to play a game of four-square every once in a while. So if you, like us, know and believe in the power of the YP, then get out and vote for Play.

A vote for Play is a vote for, well, probably a little gold figurine statue that says, "2008 YP Workplace award winner." But, we promise to really love it and you can come by any time to see it.
