Inspiration from those in NY fighting the bad economy

It is a tricky time for marketing this days…as described by Adweek, amid weekly stock-market paroxysms, rising bankruptcies, a continuing mortgage crisis and a surge in irrecoverable credit-card debt... so what are some of the services in NY doing to weather this storm?

Around the city I see that a lot of business, big and small, are having big sales and huge discounts, however there are some that I believe are reframing value in more compelling ways.

·         According to Zagat Survey, Thirty-eight percent of New Yorkers say that one way they are responding to the economic crisis is by eating out less. So on the Zagat Guide 30th-anniversary edition, out this month, one of the highlights is a new section called “Cheap Eats”. And it not only includes hamburger and pizza joints, the editors included bargain prix fixe meals at many of the city's most revered restaurants, e.g. Jean Georges, Le Cirque, and Milos. In addition, there are 648 restaurants reviewed at which dinner costs less than $30, and lunch is likely to come in under $20.

·         Equinox gyms have developed some options for their members to still feel indulged without feeling guilty about paying premium. The spa is now offering mini massages and you can now request ½ hour personal as well as shared training sessions. They also have a weekly article posted in the clubs and also on their website. This week it is “Mind Over Madness” some tips to help you “find balance, stay focused and gain perspective”: http://www.equinoxfitness.com/life/article.aspx

Can we be servicing smaller/cheaper versions of what we do to help our clients still do what they need to do?, Can our clients offer their clients smaller versions of what they do?, Do we have something to say that could help people feel better in this complex times?
