Yap's photos at Bin

My new favorite after work hobby: sipping a glass of red wine and getting lost in my friend Yap's photography (which just happens to be on the walls of Bin 22 this month). If your in the area- take the time to sip and stare...

Kaitlin Yapchaian (Yap) has a camera with her at all times; she‚d leave home without her shoes before she‚d leave home without her Canon. She uploads images daily and has posted 25,000 photos online since 2004.

Originally from Rhode Island, Yap studied design and photography at the University of Richmond. Previously, she shot work for the UR Career Development Center, for government officials in RI, and informally for NBC Universal, where she used to work in New York City. Now Yap is both a consultant and photographer at Play in downtown Richmond.

A dude ranch in Wyoming˜where Yap lived and worked for five months with her closest friends˜provided the backdrop for this collection of images. The warm colors, crisp scenery, rustic objects, and big sky of the West inspired her. Although travel is a predominant theme in her photography, it‚s a departure from what she is most passionate about shooting: people and urban culture. She loves the invasive yet intimate opportunity that her camera provides.

Yap photographs from a photojournalism perspective, having captured travel, landscapes, youth culture, weddings, and corporate events. She has a strong technology background; Yap shoots digitally, often integrating still imagery into interactive pieces.
