At Play, we do a great job of recognizing the "legacy" and contributions of
our departing teammates. We have parties for those teammates moving on to
new opportunities during which we toast their accomplishments. We share
great stories, fond memories, and celebrate the impact those folks have had,
and will continue to have, on our culture. It seems a shame to wait until
they (we) are on our way out the door to shower such accolades. So in the
spirit of attending your own funeral, how about we recognize the top
contribution of each person, as if we we're leaving. As part two, what if we
share the one story that you would tell about this person to future
teammates.

This is a great idea..
does setting up a standard 'time' to do this dimish it's celebratory aspect? or is it like the floating holiday where it takes the initiative of one person to pass it along?
Geof Says: good idea. Let's take the floating holiday approach. One person will speak highly of another's virtues, that person will then be nominated to comment on someone else and so forth and so on. Incidentally, this idea came from watching Byron tell Yap abouth Catherine's growth (both personally and professionally) at play over the past 6 years.
I agree with Geof...it's sad that we only take a formal opportunity to celebrate each other when we're on our way out the door. What if we selected particular days to celebrate our teammates accomplishments? For example, I declare April 20 to be Kara Franey day. Let's bring Kara a non-red snack that day, treat her like a princess, and -- maybe in a.m. meeting -- share one thing that Kara has contributed to Play or our own personal development.
id like to add to this idea by not only verbal accolades but also creating a physical artifact or shrine of this excellence. a wall of think cards, a physical statue of (kelly will have best idea etc...this way it lasts beyond the conversation. kelly?
